Facts:
There are more than 53 million dogs in the U.S.
Over 4.5 million people are bitten each year
Almost 1 million people seek medical attention for these bites

Demographics:
Amost 5 in 10 are children under 12 years of age
About 1 in 10 people bitten are over 70 years of age
Roughly 2 in 10 deaths from dog attacks are people over 70 years of age

Costs:
Over $1 billion is paid by insurance companies (homeowners' and renters insurance)
Over $100 million are spent in emergency visits to hospitals
